North has a space for everyone; the trouble is finding it.
Imagine this:
You are placed in an over 2 million square foot building with 20,000 other individuals, and have to maneuver through seemingly endless hallways to one single room, out of thousands of options.
For students at Humber North campus, you don’t have to imagine.

Humber is Ontario’s largest Polytechnic institution, and even for students who are nearing the end of their post-secondary school career, North campus can be really difficult to navigate.
Here are some pro tips for navigating Humber North and making the most of everything it has to offer.
Understanding the map

North campus has some great resources to help you get where you need to be, but the map can be quite confusing.
Each wing of the campus has a specific letter code. If the wing has multiple sections or an addition, that part receives an ‘X’. Think of it as an ‘ex’tension to the original section.
Additional buildings such as the Learning Resource Commons (LRC), Barrett Centre for Technology Innovation (BCTI), or the University of Guelph-Humber (GH), use abbreviations instead of letter codes.
You can find the IGNITE office in the K wing, located behind the Tech Zone and directly above the Student Centre (KX 202).
Finding hidden gems
Even if you have been at North for a couple of years, you may have never explored the entire building and may be missing out on some pretty cool stuff.
Here are some neat places that you may of never visited:
Arboretum

The Humber Arboretum is stunning all year round; It is the perfect place to relax by the pond, walk along the Humber River, or study under a tree.
The arboretum is conveniently located on Arboretum Blvd., which stretches along the backside of campus, and is right beside the residence building.
Next time you want some fresh air, need to get away from the roaring sounds of campus, or are in desperate need of a new Instagram profile picture, the arboretum is just a short walk away.
Community Pool

Did you know the Humber Community Pool is free for Humber and Guelph-Humber students during designated Humber Swim time periods?
The Humber Community Pool can be found attached to the Humber Athletics Building, in wing AX. You must enter the pool from the front doors located on Beech Forest Drive.
Humber swim is exclusive to Humber and UofGH students, employees, and alumni from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. every day, Monday through Friday.
LinX Lounge
The LinX Lounge offers a variety of fun activities to partake in whenever you have some downtime. Head on over next time you want a coffee or soup, or need to brush up on your billiards skills.
This is how you get there:
- From the H wing (where the CoCo, Starbucks and Tech Zone are located), head around the left side of the balcony overlooking the dining area towards the IGNITE sleep lounge and take your first right.
- Head straight out the doors on the other side of the hall to the IGNITE Backyard.
- Walk towards the building directly in front of you. From here, you should see the daycare to your right and a set of doors to your left.
- Head through the doors on your left and you are there!

If you do not want to trek outside in the dead of winter, you can also follow the L wing all the way to the end, then take the last right down the LX hall until you see the LinX Lounge sign.
The best part? The IGNITE Hot Soupbar is located in the LinX Lounge at Humber North! Head on over to grab a free hot soup and play some board games with friends.
P.S. You can also grab some cold soup from the IGNITE fridge in the Student Centre.

Go and explore

Ultimately, the best way to find places you enjoy on campus is by going out there and finding them yourself.
Whether you love gaming, peace and quiet, being where the food is (like the LinX Lounge Soupbar), or relaxing outside, there is a place for everyone.
Happy Navigating!
